Mercedes Benz – brand history

Mercedes is one of the oldest and still most prestigious car brands in the world. The Mercedes logo is one of the best known in the world. Only companies such as Coca-Cola and McDonald’s can compete with it. Few people know what the logo represents, however. The three-pointed star was designed to symbolise the brand’s presence in three spaces – on land, in the air and on water. The star in question first appeared in a photograph of the family home of Gottlieb Daimler, the company’s owner. On the photograph he reportedly wrote “this star will also shine above my own factory and symbolise its flourishing”.

Daimler’s prediction turned out to be 100 per cent accurate. The latest BrandZ Top 100 report, which was compiled by Millward Brown, showed that the Mercedes-Benz trademark alone is worth $21.786 billion. Only Germany’s BMW ($26.349 billion) and Toyota ($28.913 billion) are worth more.

Mercedes’ success is also visible in the market. More and more new cars with a star on the bonnet can be seen on the streets. The German brand is not cheap, but it is a guarantee of comfort, convenience, reliability and a sense of luxury. Models such as the W164, W212, CLK500 and even the W169 are particularly prized. Unfortunately, even such good cars have the right to break down.
